Handmade Japanese Washi Art - Festival Motif
These beautiful pieces of art are made by silk-screening layers of color and design onto handmade Japanese paper (washi). The patterns feature many traditional Japanese images: cherry blossoms, maple leaves, festivals, bridges, and pine trees. They measure 25'' by 38'' and would be stunning in a simple wooden frame. It's hard to capture the true beauty of these pictures - you won't be disappointed.
To make these pieces of art, artisans make a large sheet of washi (handmade Japanese paper), then create a separate screen for each color used in the design. They lay these screens over the paper one-by-one, layering colors and textures. Washi art is embossed with gold and silver and literally shimmers in the light. Each picture is incredibly detailed, colorful, and features traditional Japanese designs. The work of true Japanese craftsmen.
